Is Your Brand Making the Most out of Youtube?

Youtube.com might be relatively young, even for the internet, but it's already become incredibly popular. Every day, the website gets millions of views. And, thanks to the video monetization system, some people are even making a living through it. With a large number of content creators and Google behind it, Youtube's importance is tough to overstate. Even for automotive dealerships, the video hosting website is quickly becoming too big to ignore the potential customer reach.
Reading about experiences at a dealership or with a particular car can be entertaining and informative, but videos can help viewers better picture a particular ride or feature. Consider that 9 out of 10 vehicle shoppers come to Youtube before visiting a dealership. If you don't have a presence on the website, your dealership is clearly missing out. It's not that Youtube is the only major video host. It's just the largest and most popular one.
But what should you upload? Did you know that about 80% of millennials say that their first introduction to a brand came through a video? That stat means that:
- You need to be uploading quality content. Even if young customers don't discover your brand on Youtube, it's likely that your channel is among the first interactions they have with it. 1 in 4 shoppers will view at least one-hour's worth of content, so the more you have up, the better.
- Your dealership's Youtube channel could become incredibly important as younger generations grow up and interact with media in different ways. So be prepared!
Before you start filming, however, consider your target audiences. Yes, plural. You reach a vast age range on Youtube. A video that appeals to someone in their 50's or 60's might not win over a 30-year-old. A viewer who watches a 30-second clip might not watch a 2-minute short and definitely not a 30-minute video, no matter the content. So really think about what kind of buyers you want to attract before you tackle Youtube. Possible video ideas include test-drives, tutorials about new vehicle features and even humorous sketches. Not every bit of content needs to be informative. In fact, depending on who you're targeting, a few funny, eye-grabbing pieces could go a long way. (As an added bonus, if you gain enough subscribers, you can monetize your channel.)
